Terrorists attack radar system in Balochistan

Aug 30, 2015

Pakistan: Militants storm airport, kill engineer and kidnap another

The radar system of the airport has also been destroyed.

“One electronics supervisor was killed and another received injuries”, he added.

However, a staff of civil aviation workers continued to maintain the airport’s radar and navigational systems.

About a dozen armed men on motorcycles were involved in the attack, said provincial government spokesman Jan Muhammad Buledi. The injured was airlifted for treatment in the port city of Karachi.

Khalil Ullah, an electronics superintendent of the CAA posted in Jiwani, was gunned down by the attacker, while another engineer Mehmoodullah Niazi was taken away by the terrorists as they escaped.

Officials said that the Jiwani airport in Gwadar district has not been functional for few years. “The VOR system which helps in landing of airplanes was also damaged in the attack”.

No group has taken responsibility for the attack suspected to be the handiwork of Baloch nationalists, who regularly attack Pakistani security forces and installations in the province.

In the past, militants attacked the Pasni Radar Station in the region.
