June 13, 2013   by Kaswar Klasra

ISLAMABAD - A team of Quetta police, assisted by the Islamabad capital police, has formally arrested former President Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday after a local court of Quetta issued his non-bailable arrest warrants in Bugti murder case.

The police team, however, couldn’t take the accused to Quetta where he was supposed to be taken to for a brief interrogation by the Quetta police.

The Quetta police headed by by DIG Crime Branch, Noshad Yusuf, reached Islamabad on Wednesday to arrest Musharraf in the Akbar Bugti murder case.

After meeting the required formalities, they proceeded to the farm house of Pervez Musharraf where he is currently under house arrest.

Sources said that the police team of Quetta interrogated Musharraf for almost two hours and left for Quetta. The arrest was made at a time when hundreds of residents of Dera Bugti are protesting in the federal capital under the supervision of elder son of late Nawab Akbar Bughti who was reportedly killed during an operation of security forces years ago.

Bugti was killed in a cave in Chalgri area of Bhamboor hills of Dera Bugti district of Balochistan province on August 26, 2006 during an operation launched by security forces at a time when the accused (Pervez Musharraf) was army chief and country’s president as well.

Jamil Bugti, a son of Akbar Bugti, had nominated Musharraf, former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and others in his father’s murder.

“It is true that a team of Quetta police has arrested Musharraf at his residence that has been declared as sub-jail.

Islamabad police assisted the Quetta police in this regard,” said a spokesperson of Islamabad police while talking to The Nation on Wednesday.
